Tyan Tachyon G9700 Pro (6)
Overclocker 15 Apr 2003

Conclusion

As we can see from the benchmarks, the Tyan G9700pro has proven to be a winner in performance. It can be clearly seen that when we compare Tyan G9700pro vs Chaintech GF4 Ti4600/40.41drivers, the Tyan G9700pro really excel no only in normal nonAA/AF modes, it also has a high performance of almost 100% faster when comparing 4x AA + 16X AF (G9700Pro) to 4XAA + 8x AF (Ti4600). The performance is as good as the Gigabyte's Radeon 9700Pro as they are all based on the same core and similar memory type.

Installation is rather straightforward, the only thing you ought to remember is to plug in the aux power supply for the graphics card, otherwise the graphics card will not function properly and it will indicate on the screen prompting you to install the power plug to the graphics card. The card has lots of thermal paste applied to the Core and this could have helped to stabalise the card during overclocking. In fact, we also see that thermal pads are used on top of the memory, it could well be replaced with thermal paste instead.

The package is quite basic as it provides the necessary stuff. There are no games bundled nor there are any gimmicks within the package. There is only the WinDVD and the overclocking tool within the CDROM. A step-by-step guide is also included in the documentation to coach you on the installation of this card.

Overall, Tyan G9700Pro is definitely a good choice if you are thinking of getting a stable and nice and simple card for your gaming and 3D needs.
