SIS 655FX Ref Board Review (8)
Conclusion SiS 655FX came a bit late as we saw Springdales (i865PE) and Canterwoods (i875P) has flooded the market as early as June this year. Better to be late than never is probably what SiS wants to do. SiS 655FX is a promising chipset, at least from the way I see it. Supporting P4 800FSB CPU, Hyperthreading and SATA RAID support from the South bridge 964. The performance of the ref board is pretty good and I am actually impressed by its performance surpassing most of the springdales out there except the ASUS and ABIT which is slightly faster. One thing that I saw which I feel is very innovative is how SiS manages to do the 3 DIMM Dual DDR support. In the first page, I have already explained how they did that. It is really good because most users might have some older 64MB RAM and would like to mix and match ram to run in Dual Channel DDR mode. You can't possibly do that if you use Springdale/Canterwood (total in each channel must be the same). The SiS 655FX is now available on ASuStek and Gigabyte. The actual boards could have more features installed with third party chipsets for Gigabit Ethernet etc. If you are looking for a dual channel DDR400 board, I think it is definitely worth considering what the chipset has too offer.
