Benchmarking

In Windows Movie Maker ver 2, we imported the sample file that comes with the program into it and encode it using a 1.5Mbps video WMV. Here are the timings recorded using a stop watch. From the timings, we can see that Dual Channel i865PE and i875 is definitely more superior by 12.5% against the unofficial 800mhz supporting 845PE chipset. Timings recorded in seconds (the faster the better). The Canterwoods leads the way (in red) while SiS 648FX is just slightly slower than 1 sec behind the Springdales. In fact, most of the Springdales are running a higher clock speed. We have to take that into account.

In terms of rendering, lightwave 3.0 is used. We used the benchmark file Radio-reflective things and rendered one frame. Here are the timings recorded in seconds (the faster the better). We get a very consistent result. SiS 648FX ref board scores almost as good as the average Springdales out there. ABIT BH7 based on i845PE is just 2secs behind.
