OCWorkbench Readers' Award 2002

Best Features Mobile Phone year 2002

Let's take a look at the best features mobile phone of yr 2002. Top of the chart, we have the just on sale SonyEricsson P800. Although it is sold by backorder, it's features has attracted many of our voters to vote for it. In fact, during our review of the P800, the page views scored a much higher readership. In the 2nd place, it is the T68i from SonyEricsson. Although this T68i has only a 256 colours screen, it's bluetooth function makes it one of the most complete phone that was launched last yr 2002 and one of the first phones to support MMS through firmware upgrade. In 3rd place is OKWAP 166, a Taiwanese dual band phone. Most users might not have this brand before as it is not sold outside Taiwan. I suppose our Taiwanese readers must have been voting for it. This phone supports polyphonic 16 channel and a dictionary for English, Chinese translation. You can read our reviews on the P800 and OKWAP 166 in the reviews (2002).

Best Innovative product year 2002

Year 2002 was one of the most exciting year as we see many new products launched. With new products released, old products goes end of life sooner than before. With such heated competition in the IT world, products have to be innovative to capture the readers' attention. Below is a list of nominations from our readers and the top 3 products are ATi Radeon 9700Pro, nVIDIA nForce2 chipset and ABIT's Max Series. Innovative means make a change to the current trend. Indeed, Radeon 9700Pro's appearance makes an impact in the graphics industry as it overtook GF4 Ti4600 as the top performer for year 2002. Will it still remain the top leader in 2003 with the upcoming FX, we shall see. As for nForce2, it brought Dual Channel DDR to the Athlon chipsets and has fix PCI/AGP making it one of the best chipsets for overclocking since PCI and AGP is 33/66 independent of the FSB.

In the 3rd position is that ABIT's MAX series of boards. It brought about a new revolution to be legacy free and put all the necessary connectors all on board. With the newer AT7 Max2 and IT7 Max2, it also comes bundled with Serillel making it the first boards to be able to enjoy SATA thru the use of conventional IDE HD and improving air flow in the PC Box.

In fact, some of the nominated products are quite innovative too but it just didn't catch the attention of our readers :) Let's hope they do better marketing next yr.
