Intel 865PE Springdale boards 4 way shootout (8) - EPoX 4PDA2+
Bluetooth
21 May 2003

Conclusion

Out of the 4 boards, the EPoX 4PDA2+ seems to be a bit overclocked by default at 203MHz. The performance is pretty inline with most of the Springdale boards we tested except one. Does that mean that there is a way to tune up the BIOS to reach performance levels of Canterwood. In our tests, we have to pump up the DDR voltage to 2.7v to ensure stability. At 2.6v, we encountered a bit of problems with our RAM.

This board has very nice features including SATA RAID 0 supported by ICH5R, it also has SATA RAID 0/1 support by SiliconImage SIL3112A. So altogether you can have 4 SATA HDDs hooked up. HPT372 is also on board for IDE RAID 0/1/0+1 support. This is definitely one important feature if you are looking for a board that can hook up so many HDDs.

EPoX boards usually has overclocking features. Out of the few boards we tested, the Epox board has one of the largest range of voltages available for adjustments. FSB Range selectable from 100 ~ 350MHz at 1MHz stepping. CPU Vcore Voltages are selectable up to +0.05v of default. AGP voltage can be set up to +0.70 of default 1.5vVDimm voltage can be selected up to +0.7v of default 2.5v. VDimm voltage can be selected up to +0.7v of default 2.5v. The only exception is the CPU Vcore which is quite limited to only +0.05v.

Overall, I am impressed with the amount of HDD you can install on this board. The overclocking features is good except for the lower vcore settings. I do need that wireless LAN to replace that cluttered room of mine. It's a good board not to be missed.
