Intel 865PE Springdale boards 4 way shootout (8) - Chaintech 9PJL
Bluetooth
21 May 2003

Conclusion

Chaintech 9PJL is the only board in our shootout having a ICH5 south bridge. What that means is that this board wouldn't support SATA RAID 0. As we have seen before on a Canterwood board, we discussed whether ICH5 or ICH5R will give a boost in performance. In our test, it seems that it doesn't make much difference in performance compared to the other boards based on ICH5R.

The Chaintech 9PJL looks great with a black PCB. The golden connectors makes it looks classy among all. With the CBOX that comes bundled with it, it makes this board stands out from the boards reviewed. As it comes free with the board, it is definitely one board that has one of the best price/performance ratio without the unnecessary functions for those who do not need them.

In terms of overclocking, the CPU clock (FSB) can be adjusted from 100 ~ 255 (100 ~ 400 with new BIOS according to Chaintech) depending on the CPU inserted. We set our ram settings to 2-5-2-2. Memory Frequency can be set to DDR400, DDR266, DDR320. CPU Voltage can be set as default or up to 1.675v. A wider range up to 1.85v would be better. DRAM Voltage is selectable up to +0.3v of default. AGP Voltage can be set up to 0.3v of default.

The board has the bare minimum to get you started with the CBOX which comes as standard in the Apogee series. Overall, a balanced board but just lack RAID functionalities.
