Gigabyte GV-R98P256D 256M Review (6)
Conclusion As we can see from the benchmarks, the Gigabyte GV-R98P256D has minimal gain over the R98P128D. The only differences we can see is that when we need that extra Hi Quality imaging and it is faster. This is somewhat now too exciting about the performance levels of this card. It is almost the same as the R98P128D. Installation is rather straightforward, the only thing you ought to remember is to plug in the aux power supply for the graphics card, otherwise the graphics card will not function properly. This time round, it uses the normal 4 pin connector (meant for your HDD rather than FDD) which is slightly bigger. This is a good choice since that most PSU has more of that than the small little 4 pin plug for your Floppy disk drive. The software bundle that comes with the board should be sufficient for most of your needs like DVD playback etc. It comes with some games which are deemed a bit outdated. V-tuner is bundled and it proves to be one of the easiest to use software to overclock the VPU. This card uses DDR-II 2.2ns memory chips, but it is a pity that they seemed to have locked the memory clock beyond 400Mhz. This makes it difficult to try to overclock the memory to its potential of 500Mhz or slightly above that. The interesting difference is that the core though the same clocks better and higher than the 128M card we tested earlier. Overall, this is a good card to own if you have that extra cash.
