Gigabyte as one the 1st tier manufacturer is always pushing ahead with new
innovative product design to entice the consumers. As we have seen from previous
Gigabyte board reviews, their boards have adopted revitalised the RD to come out
with the DPS and other important features that Gigabyte was never into.
Today, we review the Gigabyte 8KNXP, a new product
based on the latest Intel i875 Canterwood chipset. The 8KNXP Ultra is the higher
end series of the 8KNXP. 8KNXP Ultra is probably the first board or the only one
to date to equipped with a Ultra Wide SCSI 320. Not only does it bring SCSI on
board, it comes with ICH5R which supports 2 SATA devices to operate in RAID 0.
It is also equipped with a ITe GigaRAID controller for IDE RAID. Another
major difference from the other board manufacturers is that it split one of the
channels into 2 DIMMs making it the first board to have 6 DIMMs. This does not
mean it can support 6GB, rather it can support more RAM combinations according
to Gigabyte. 8KNXP comes with other features like Gigabit Ethernet, ALC655 sound
chipset for auto sense of connectors etc.
