Gigabyte 7VT600-1394 KT600 Mainboard Review (5)
Overclocker 18th Aug 2003

Benchmarking

We checked out Q3 running Demo001 at 1024x768x32 Hi-Quality. In this category, the SIS 748; a single channel DDR solution lost to the nForce2 platform. This is to be expected. The difference between the two boards is very minimal. It is only 0.2 fps which is hardly noticeable. In fact, what would happen if the FSB was 200.5, it would have got similar or high results.

The SiS 748 boards are no match to dual channel boards. We can see that the nForce2 are 7.4% faster then the SiS ref board over here. Surprisingly, the Gigabyte based on KT600 doesn't seem to excel in this category although the memory benchmark scores we saw were very impressive for a single channel solution.

In 3DMark2001SE, the Gigabyte 7VT600-1394 does not seem to be able to catch up with the nForce2 but it is on par with SiS 748 boards. This is quite amazing to say. Perhaps the single channel has limited the performance of both single channel chipsets.

In 3DMark2003, we see a similar pattern. The 7VT600-1394 is just slightly better than the Asrock K7S8X-E mainboard in performance. Would it be better if we are allowed to tune to 2-5-2-2 for the Gigabyte BIOS. I think it will definitely improve it but it will still be a gap for it to compete with the nForce2.
