DFI 748-AL SiS 748 Mainboard Review (5)
Bluetooth 19th Aug 2003

Benchmarking

We checked out Q3 running Demo001 at 1024x768x32 Hi-Quality. In this category, the SIS 748; a single channel DDR solution lost to the nForce2 platform. This is to be expected. The difference between the two boards is very minimal. It is only 0.2 fps which is hardly noticeable. In fact, what would happen if the FSB was 200.5, it would have got similar or high results. In all tests, Tyan Radeon 9700Pro is used and is running in 8X mode with Catalyst 3.2 (7.84) drivers for all boards tested.

The SiS 748 boards are no match to dual channel boards. We can see that the nForce2 are 7.4% faster then the SiS ref board over here. Surprisingly, the Gigabyte based on KT600 doesn't seem to excel in this category although the memory benchmark scores we saw were very impressive for a single channel solution.

The DFI 748-AL though running at an exact 200.45MHz, seems faster than the ASrock K7S8X-E in Q3 Demo001 tests.

In 3DMark2001SE, DFI 748-AL is not too far off from the SiS 748 Ref board and ASrock K7S8X-E. This is because of the lower FSB. A 1MHz difference can give very different results.

In 3DMark2003, The difference between the SiS and the VIA KT600 are not too far off from one another. The dual channel DDR400 solutions still leads the way in terms of bandwidth hungry applications.
