BIOSTAR K8VHA Pro VIA K8T800 Mainboard Review (5)
Overclocker 6 Oct 2003

Benchmarking

We checked out Q3 running Demo001 at 1024x768x32 Hi-Quality. In this category, the SIS 748; a single channel DDR solution lost to the nForce2 platform. This is to be expected. The difference between the two boards is very minimal. It is only 0.2 fps which is hardly noticeable. In fact, what would happen if the FSB was 200.5, it would have got similar or high results. In all tests, Tyan Radeon 9700Pro is used and is running in 8X mode with Catalyst 3.2 (7.84) drivers for all boards tested.

It is not difficult to analyse from the graph that the dual channel P4 3.0C with ABIT IS7-G performs better than the A64 3200+ with a single channel DDR400. The scores are quite close with Gigabyte and ALi M1687 ref scoring 377fps. To my surprise, the VIA based Gigabyte K8VNXP only scored 370.3fps and the BIOSTAR K8VHAPro scores 374fps. This is short of 3-4 fps from the ALi and nF3 boards.

In 3DMark2001SE Build 330, the BIOSTAR K8VHA Pro scores a high of 17515 which is a very good score. VIA seems to be focused on getting good scores in such benchmarks but not too much attention is taken into improving business and content applications.

In 3DMark2003, the VIA based K8VNXP seems to be slightly faster by only a few marks. The differences among the 3 boards are not too far off.
