ASROCK K7S8X
SiS 746FX Mainboard Review (3)
Benchmarking Memory Benchmarks (fsb:166, AXP2700+) SiSoft Sandra 2002 The infamous SiSoft Sandra 2002 is used to test out the memory benchmarks, CPU Arithmetic and Multimedia benchmarks. All the systems are tweak to it's maximum possible settings of CAS 2, 2-2-5 (except ASrock which we can't tune) All boards running in SYNC DDR333 (166/166) otherwise specified. The FSB of the various boards are : ASROCK K7S8X : 166.64Mhz First of all, we have to take note of the FSB 166.64Mhz which is very accurate. The benchmarks obtained for other boards might be skewed a bit if it is above the rated FSB (default). We use L1.25 BIOS to test the board. As we have mentioned before, there is no way we could adjust the ram timings except the CAS to 2, 2.5 and Fast, Turbo or Ultra. We set it to CAS 2.5 Ultra as the system can't POST at all at 166/166 CAS 2 Ultra SyncDDR333 mode. The interesting fact is that, when we set it to run async DDR400, 166/200, it works steadily at CAS 2 Ultra. Sync DDR333 test : CAS 2.5 Ultra In SiSoft Memory benchmarks, the Dual Channel DDR Epox 8RDA+ leads the pack. ASrock K7S8X scores as close as the ECS L7S7A2. In Async DDR400 mode, the result seems a bit low. In the Ref board and ECS L7S7A2, we see that when it is run at Async DDR400 mode, the memory benchmarks are higher. Hopefully, a new BIOS could resolve that. In the CPU Multimedia tests, the Asrock K7S8X does perform well. It is strange that when we run at Async DDR400 mode, it is slower than running it at Sync DDR333. SiS746fx and ECS L7S7A2 shows an improvement by using Async DDR400. On the SiS746fx and ECS L7S7A2 shows an improvement by using Async DDR400 but this does not seem to be the case for Asrock K7S8X. |
