SiS745 Reference Board (7)
Conclusion The SiS745 reference board has pretty good performance compared to rest of the board that uses ATA100 interface. As we can see from the benchmarks in Content Creation, it scores a higher score than it's retail boards and KT266A boards (ATA100). 3D performance might lose out a bit to the KT266A chipset but we didn't notice any stuttering apparent on some of the KT266A boards. As this is a reference board, there is not much documentation on it. The basic features are there. Something that might interest users are the availability of a multiplier (on board) and a 1mhz stepping fsb option available in BIOS. This reference board gives us a better opinion of the kind of performance we can get from SiS745 board. The only pity is that we are unable to test run at ASYNC DDR333 as the BIOS does not have that option made available thus unable to compare with DDR333 of KT333. Overall, the SiS745 chipset is fast and it does perform very well in content creation softwares which serves the purpose for those who do lots of spreadsheets, mpeg encoding etc. 3D performance is just 0.5% difference from the KT266A counterparts which is very minor. Overall I/O is also improved. If you are on a tight budget and with that in mind, the SiS745 is still a viable option available for your consideration. The boards should be in the range of USD 70-85. |
