SiS648 Reference Mainboard Review (11)
Overclocker 15 July 2002

Conclusion

We can see that SiS648 is definitely a better chipset for the Pentium 4 platform. To date, it is one of the most exciting chipset that has most of the necessary features all in and not penalising the overall performance. From the tests, we can feel the speed of the system with the same CPU that we used. The new Southbridge SiS963 also supports the latest technology and provides the best multimedia performance through the 1GB/s MULTIOL "highway" between the N-S bridges. With all those connectors, it is definitely one of the best features board around.

In our tests, we discovered minor issues with the IDE busmastering drivers as we mentioned in the review. We feel that SiS should look into why CCWS and BWS results dropped after installing the drivers. A new set of IDE drivers would definitely help to balance the performance between Content Creation and Disk Performance.

As we have already reviewed the Shuttle AS45GTR, we will leave it to you to read the review on our findings with commercial products.
