SiS648 Ref Mainboard Review (1)
Overclocker 13 Jul 2002

The long awaited SiS 648 board has finally arrived in our labs. If you have been using SiS 645DX chipset, you would be probably enjoying those async DDR unofficial timings. On the SiS648, they are also available. On top of that the new chipset offers more than the previous., the noticable change is the 963 South bridge which brings more performance with ATA-133 interface and USB 2.0. Firewire 1394A is also part of the specifications making the SiS648 a potential choice for multimedia freaks which needs huge blocks of data transfer using either USB 2.0 or IEEE 1394 interfaces.  On top of that the SiS963 South bridge chipset is paired with the SiS 648 North Bridge through a 1 GB/s MutIOL channel. This doubles the bandwidth between the North and South from the previous 512MB/s. AGP 8x is supported on this new chipset.
