Shuttle SS51G as we see is
an improvement over the SS50 released earlier this year. Featuring an
updated chipset and supporting the new 533Mhz FSB P4 CPUs, and an
upgraded South Bridge, it brings the disk performance to another level.
The USB2.0 improves transfers from USB devices that are 2.0 compliant.
With the 1394 ports on the external, it can be easily connected to the
DV devices easily.
The performance of this integrated box
is excellent especially in the graphics performance as recorded in the
benchmarking against other boards. The SS51G that incorporates an AGP
slots makes it a good upgrade solution for those who wish to use this
box in gaming centres.
Installation was not so straightforward.
Well this could be due to the fact that we are so used to installing
desktop and not very good at squeezing our hands into the small metal
structure. With the help of the manual, which could be improved perhaps
with better quality photo shots of the installation procedure, it will
definitely help the user to install the system within half an hour.
In fact, I was quite surprised by the
fact that there are some overclocking features which you could try. no
voltage tweak though. The ratios are available but there is no option
for the unofficial DDR400 support in there. FSB ranges from 100~165Mhz.
In our tests, we maintain a low temperature of 46 Degrees
throughout our tests. This is really good considering that there is no
fan blowing at it directly.
I find SS51G a definitely
replacement for my SS50. I have currently transferred all my HD, CDROM
to this new machine and pair it up for the best 533Mhz performance. With
the lower noise level than the SS50, it makes a better choice than the
SS50. I have installed an ASUS DVD-ROM on it and it sit right next to
my TV where I will hook up the speakers and S-VHS output for watching
DVDs. For that, you got my Editor's
Choice!
