Shuttle SS40
SiS740 Barebone System Review (1)
Overclocker 16 May 2002
Ever considered replacing your desktop machine
with something that has a smaller footprint and yet offers the capabilities of
the big brands? Shuttle SS40 might just be the alternative you have been looking
for after the successful SS50 which is for the Pentium 4 Socket 478. SS40 offers
the most integrated solution that should be more than sufficient if you are
thinking of using it as a desktop replacement. Measuring a dimension
of 201(w) x 188(h) x 291(l) mm, it is small and compact inside.
As we all know, the SiS740 chipset is the video
integrated version of the SiS735 chipset. The Shuttle SS40 is based on this
integrated chipset which offers basic 2D/3D video that offers a performance
close to GF2 MX200 which is fundamental for most commercial needs and some 3D
games.
On top of that, this box comes with ports for
instant connectivity to external peripherals. On the front panel, we can see a
SPDIF connector, MIC, Earphone, 2 USB ports, Firewire connector. On the rear are
more connectors like Com1/Com2, TVout, 1394 port, 2 USB, 2 Firewire, 1 LAN, PS/2
Keyboard, PS/2 mouse, 6 channel audio output (spk out, line out, line in). Below
are the specifications and followed by a photo gallery.
