FM Radio/Loudspeaker

In Stereo

    The Nokia 7210 has an integrated FM radio supporting full stereo. You can preset a total of 20 stations and you have a choice of listening thru. the supplied earphone or the loudspeaker. *Note: You have to plug in the earphone to switch on the radio* You can also browse thru. your preset channels by pressing the answering button on the earphone.

    A handsfree mode without the wires. The loudspeaker mode works like a charm and it's loud ... The Nokia 7650 pales in comparison ... a peanut to a walnut or whatever. It's even loud enough to become a portable radio ...

Java (J2ME)/Games

Java2ME

    Some monochrome phones on the market (e.g. Siemens SL45i which are Java enabled) are enjoying simple and small games/applications for free (for some time now). The advantages of Java is one that is subjected to intense debate. Yes .. the files are small and mostly simple games like Tic-Tac-Toe but it depends on who's writing them. The better stuffs comes with a price tag and you have to pay for them (like I did for the Nokia 7650). The Nokia 7210 comes with 275kB of free space for you to fill and from my estimate, a total of 5 games/applications (average size of up to 30kB) is reasonable. A conversion utility by Nokia is installed by default *Note: This is based on a shared memory configuration whereby ANY functions within the phone can use the available space (subject to current free space)*

Games

    Bounce and Triple Pop (TP) are two interesting games included in the package. I am currently hooked on TP for its fast gameplay and cool sound effects.

Profiles/Settings/Gallery

Time out Profile

    The same old profiles with a twist! Now you can set a time frame for the profile to expire! For example, you are going to a theatre and you switch to your Silent profile. After the show, a late supper and home you go. The next morning you picked up your phone and you have 6 missed calls and 3 messages!? Ohhhhh ... you forgot to switch it back to your 'daily' profile ... Now, you can set a time for the phone to change back to the previous profile automatically.

Ringtones

    The market is moving toward better sounding ringtone with support for 16, 24 and even 40 polyphonic. The 4 poly (4 channels/instruments at any one time) found on the Nokia 7210 is a step or two ahead of the usual buzzer type but I wished Nokia could have given us much more (Granted that the 7210 has a 40 instruments bank). The sound is acceptable for simple tunes but once the composition gets laden with multiple instruments ... the 7210 lags behind those found on the Samsungs. The usual SMS alert, caller group and normal ringtone can be customized to your likings.
