Mainboard Review (1)
The is the 4th SiS648 board we review here at OCworkbench.com. As we know, MSI is now one of the top 4 manufacturers in Taiwan. As with every mainboard manufacturer, it is always important to have a broad range of products than sticking with a particular chipset. This is to cater to the masses who prefer boards that are stable and wants a board that offers the best cost/performance ratio. SiS 648 is such a chipset and it definitely brings down the cost of ownership of a Pentium 4 system. The chipset of this mainboard, SiS 648 incorporates a newer MutIOL with 1G of bandwidth linking the north and south bridge, it doubles what the 645DX chipset offers. This definitely speeds up the I/O particularly in the disk access and data transfer within the various I/O subsystems. As we all know, we expect SiS 648 to support the DDR400. Unfortunately, there is no standard DDR400 and it's pending approval by JEDEC. Thus there would be compatibility issues with certain DDR400. If you noticed, the official specifications of the boards indicates supporting DDR333+. Other than that, the new improvements are the 8X AGP support, 1G MULTIOL, USB 2.0, ATA133, 1394 support.
