Handspring Treo 180 (5)
Overclocker 8 May 2002

Conclusion

Treo180 is an innovative product from Handspring. As one of the PDA leaders, the functionalities are already there. The only tricky part is the integration of SMS and other mobile phone services onto the Treo180. In fact, we were able to run the same applications that were provided by Starhub Menu just like we did on the Nokia phones. What you can do on a dual band mobile phone can be done on the Treo. e.g. Roaming, voice mail, different tones for incoming calls or SMS.

I particular like the way SMS can be composed using the built in keyboard. Although keying in text message can be achieve using the keyboard, the buttons are a bit tough and needs some time for me to get used to it. There is no Asian text input support. We tested the Browser and found it pretty speedy. The reception of the Treo is also as good as my Nokia phone. No drop calls at all.

We feel that this product is indeed very useful and could be better if there is a 256 colour screen, GPRS enabled and MMS capability. We are anticipating that the new Treo 270 series which has a colour screen to implement some of the newer technologies.

This product is priced at USD399 (with service activation) or SGD 1000 estimated (with service activation).

  • Good Audio Quality

  • Documentation is precise and clear
  • SMS
