ECS L4S5A Review (6)
Overclocker 22 Mar 2001

Conclusion

ECS L4S5A is a much better performer compared to it's predecessor P4S5A. The performance in terms of 3D and content creation is mixed. Under Quake 3, the performance is on par with ABIT SD7-533, but in terms of Content Creation, it is not as good as the reference board. Surprisingly, the results of the SiSoft Sandra memory benchmarks showed an impressive score compared to all the rest of the boards we have tested so far. This gave us an impression that the board probably is not tuned for maximum performance yet.

L4S5A is a cheap board and thus features are kept to minimum. It is really cool to have a built in LAN port for connection to LAN/broadband. It does not have a wide range of FSB options for you to set. Installation of this board is straightforward. The only regret is the position of the floppy connector Overclocking can be done through changing the FSB, we were able to run at 112Mhz FSB at a less aggressive memory timing. Documentation are OK and readable.

Overall, this could be the board of choice if you are looking for a low/cost price performance board for the Pentium 4.
