ECS L4S5A Review (1)
Overclocker 22 Mar 2001
SiS's best partner ECS brings out another low
cost Pentium 4 board based on the SiS645 chipset. L4S5A is the board that makes
Pentium 4 systems more affordable due to the inexpensive chipset from SiS. The SiS 645 chipset brings down the costs of
mainboards as it has one of the the best price / performance ratio to date. The
SiS645 chipset needs no introduction as it has proven itself in most previews
done at various websites. It is a one of the strongest contender among the P4
DDR chipsets with its support of DDR266 and DDR333 DDR RAM. This definitely
makes it one of the most attractive alternative to other chipsets that only
supports DDR266.
From our tests, different manufacturers that
uses the SiS645 chipset tuned their BIOS differently, some managed to optimised
it so well but some has room for improvements. In the subsequent pages, we
will first take a look at some photos and later the benchmarks where we compare
it to i845D and ALiP4 chipset.
L4S5A V1.X
mainboard is an ATX mainboard that uses a 4-layer printed circuit board
and measures 305 mm x 220 mm. The mainboard features a mPGA Socket 478
that accommo-dates Pentium® 4 processors supporting frontside
bus (FSB) speeds up to 400MHz. The L4S5A
incorporates the SiS®645 chipset
which combines support for the new high-bandwidth Double Data Rate (DDR)
SDRAM, and the AC 97 audio codec.
