LAN MAC ADDRESS FIX GUIDE Updated 05/11/02 by Tim B @ OCWorkbench.com Original Guide by oetech By Oetech We have all seen it, Flash your bios and loose your MAC address on the NIC. ECS's website says to use the LAN fix with the EE.DAT and the EE.EXE file. All that works, the only problem is the EE.DAT file is bad and it can be confusing. I have written this little guide and hopefully it will make everything clear as mud. ****************************************** 1. Download the k7s5a_id.exe from ECS's website BIOS download page for the K7S5A. 2. Look at the sticker on your parallel port. It will have some numbers that you want to write down that look like this: 00508BD5414B 3. Write these numbers in a chart like this (remember to substitute my numbers for yours): 1A = 00 4. Extract the k7s5a_id.exe and go to folder where you extracted the files to. 5. Right-click the file called EE and choose "Open With" 6. Choose Notepad and click on OK 7. Go down to the line 9 8. Replace the first 2 characters with the numbers that 2A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 2A = 50) 9. Replace the second 2 characters with the numbers that 1A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 1A = 00) 10. Go to Line 10 11. Replace the first 2 characters with the numbers that 4A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 4A = D5) 12. Replace the second 2 characters with the numbers that 3A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 3A = 8B) 13. Go to line 11 14. Replace the first 2 characters with the numbers that 6A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 6A = 4B) 15. Replace the second 2 characters with the numbers that 5A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 5A = 41) 16. Lines 9, 10, and 11 should now look like this (remember that these will have YOUR numbers): 5000 ; Mac addr [2][1] 17. Go to line 33 (the first line under all the "ffff"'s) 18. Replace the first 2 characters with the numbers that 1A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 1A = 00) 19. Replace the second 2 characters with the numbers that 2A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 2A = 50) 20. Replace the third 2 characters with the numbers that 3A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 3A = 8b) 21. Replace the next 6 characters with zeros (00 00 00) 22. Go to the next line 23. Replace the first 2 characters with the numbers that 1A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 1A = 00) 24. Replace the second 2 characters with the numbers that 2A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 2A = 50) 25. Replace the third 2 characters with the numbers that 3A equals in your chart from above(e.g. 3A = 8b) 26. Replace the next 6 characters with the letter F (ff ff ff) 27 The last 2 lines should now look like (remember that these will have YOUR numbers): 00 50 8B ff ff ff ; Mac
addr limit 28. Save this file as EE.DAT 29. Put EE.DAT and EE.EXE onto a bootable floppy. Make sure the floppy only has these 5 files: COMMAND.COM 30. Boot to that floppy 31. From the A: prompt type in this command and press enter: EE EE.DAT 32. You should get a command saying it was successful. 33. Reboot 34. All Done ******************************************
