Chaintech 7SJR SiS745 Review (7)
Overclocker 5 Apr 2002

Conclusion

Well, the this is the 3rd board which is available on the market. To date, Chaintech has indicated that small quantities are already shipping in France. Chaintech 7SJR is an interesting product that is somewhat targetted for both OEM and end user market as not many boards have 6 ch audio, RAID on a SiS745 board.

The performance of this board is pretty good. If you check out the AGP performance, we can see that in real life apps like Quake3, the performance is better than the MSI 745Ultra. In Content Creation wise, it is on par with the MSI 745Ultra. Features-wise, this is one of the "high-end" boards that implements the SiS745 chipset. With RAID and 6 ch audio and Diagnostic DEBUG CODE, these are some of the innovative ways to break away from the shabbily image of SiS on the AMD platforms.

Installation is definitely straightforward as there are not much jumpers or bios settings you would need to figure out. Overclockers will be disappointed by the fact that this board, just like 7SID, does not provide overclocking features at all within BIOS. There are also no jumpers available for changing voltages, multipliers on board.

In conclusion, our feelings of this board is mixed. It seems to be a board made for the SI but it seems to have some of the top notch features e.g. RAID, 6 ch audio etc. Well, I find that this board will definitely spur more interest of manufacturers to adopt future SiS74x chipsets with added features real soon.
