Interview with Scott
Thirwell, Marketing Director, ABIT TAIWAN (2)
6) What are the new boards that are in
the pipeline ? Well, from AMD we have the Hammer line. This is still in the works, but we
are playing with a few different chipsets and will determine the best 1 or 2 and
release the board using those chips. From Intel, the 845PE and 845GE are
long-term platforms and we will be seeing these for a long time to come. We are
also working on the next generation chipset board from Intel to be released next
year. Lastly, we will also have the SI7 which is the SiS658-based board from us
which will be the Rambus board to end Rambus-based boards. If Rambus is your
thing, then the SI7 is the board for you. 7) Will ABIT consider other chipsets say SIS, Trident, ATi for future
graphics card ? No. Our nVIDIA line is growing by 25% per year. While other VGA Card makers
are fighting for a few percentage of market share, ABIT has managed to become a
main player in the VGA Card market. The OTES line of VGA Cards from ABIT has
revolutionised the VGA Card industry. Our OTES II, designed for nVIDIA's NV30 is
a totally different design than the OTES designed for the Ti4200 line. The OTES
II was specifically designed for the NV30 and takes a radically diffent form in
terms of air intake and outflow. ABIT's OTES brought real and effective heat
pipe technology to VGA Cards and the OTES II takes this original OTES heat pipe
technology and transforms the way we think about air flow and heat pipes on a
VGA Card. 8) Will ABIT be considering going into wireless LAN products ? We are considering it. Many have seen our MediaXP front panel which offers a
multiple memory card reader and front panel connections. We have tested a
MediaXP with 802.11b WLAN. We have 1 system set up in a meeting room and the
notebook users can use their WLAN card to look at e-mail or the web. It is a
cool device that offers real value to end users. 9) How do you rate OCworkbench :) OCWorkbench is a leading English-language website for the world market. In
terms of first looks at products ranging from PC-based products to cool hand
phones, there are few sites that can say that they are so strong in giving users
the real first look. There have been times that I have seen an early version of
an ABIT board on your site before I have seen the board myself. Thank You for you time Scott for enlightening us on ABIT's product
strategy and roadmaps for year 2002/2003. |
