ABIT GF4 Ti4200 OTES Review
(6)
Conclusion The performance of this card is pretty good especially if you are looking for a nice looking, all-in-1 feature packed card. Of course, if you were to compare it with a GF4 ti4600 or an ATi Radeon 9700pro, there is still a difference in performance. It's pretty easy to reach similar levels of performance of the GF4 Ti4400 or close to a Ti4600 through overclocking the card's core and memory. The heatsink pipe helped to stabilise the GPU from overheating under intense overclocking. The only fact that is probably limiting the overclockability could be the 3.6ns vram on board. In fact, we are able to do a GPU core of 325 if we were to lower the memory timings to around 275. Installation is rather straightforward, no Auxiliary cables to take care of and you do not need to much. it snaps in nicely into the AGP Slot. The only complain i have is that the card might block the way of the RAM slots on particularly MSI mainboards. The next thing to take note is that the card will eat into the space of the PCI #1 slot thus reducing 1 useable PCI slot of your mainboard. If you are using a MicroATX board, you would have ended up with 2 PCI slots left. Something that I couldn't bear is the fast spinning 7200RPM fan. It is way too loud. Over here I have recorded the audio files of the ABIT GF4 Ti4200 OTES, Chaintech GF4 Ti4600 and MSI GF3 Ti200. You can click on the links to have a feel of how it compares. The test was done outside the casing with unidirectional microphone pointing directly to the fan. Price : USD 179 (pricewatch.com) The bundled software that comes with the board should be sufficient for most of your needs like DVD playback etc. As an overall product, Here are my ratings : Ratings Here are my ratings out of 10.
